Bob Harper

Robert “Bob” Harper is best known for his appearances on the US television series, The Biggest Loser, a show designed to help people lose weight and get fit. But, before his claim to television fame, Bob was already a well-known, in-demand fitness specialist in Los Angeles, California. Today, along with The Biggest Loser appearances, Bob tours as a motivational speaker. He is also the author of several DVDs and books. His most recent book, Are You Ready! To Take Charge, Lose Weight, Get in Shape, and Change Your Life Forever, provides dieters with tips and insights into healthy, long-term weight loss.

Bob’s Philosophy

Bob’s philosophy throughout his career has been to help people create a strong inner well-being to aid them in achieving sustainable weight loss. To that end, he uses what he calls an “inside-out” approach with each of his clients. First, he asks them what they like about themselves; encourages them to realize their own sense of self-worth. Then he motivates them to see their potential and set goals. Finally, he helps his clients develop good habits which result in positive lifestyle changes. His comprehensive approach of combining the physical, emotional, and spiritual has proven highly successful for both private clients and those participating in group events.

Are You Ready!

In Are You Ready!, Bob tries to bring that which he’s offered his clients to everyone. The book is not so much a diet book as a life-change one. Rather than provide restrictive diets and meal plans, Bob suggests you use self-worth as your guide – anything that enters your body should be good for it. The book also provides menus as examples of what your meals should look like. And, as with any good diet and fitness professional, Bob always recommends exercise as a part of his plan.

Our Opinion

Bob Harper is an advocate of lifestyle change versus fad diets and extreme measures. In this we can only applaud him. His book, Are You Ready!, along with DVDs and other motivational materials can serve to help dieters along the path to a healthy weight. But, for some, books and DVDs are not enough. So, unless you 1) have access to Bob himself or 2) are an exceptional self-motivator, then while Bob’s material will certainly supplement your weight-loss plan, it may not be enough on its own to get you where you want to be.
